Charmaine Baltis studied jewellery design at Enmore Design Centre in Sydney. Driven by the desire to combine structure & spirit into fashion jewellery in Australia, she began her business designing and hand making small collections and selling through galleries and boutiques in Australia. She now has small team of artisans working alongside Baltis to hand make each piece of jewellery that is being sent all over the globe.
Baltis’ jewellery collections integrate textures and materials drawn from Northern Australia. South sea pearls, crocodile leather, carved buffalo horn and precious metal combined into distinct pieces of jewellery.

Baltis released her ‘Saltwater’ collection at Sydney Fashion Week in 2007 gaining international attention from super model Erin Wassin, Weinstein Productions for a film with Harrison Ford & Sean Penn, Media coverage includes Harpers Bazaar, Sydney Morning Herald, Resident Magazine, TQ, Scoop Traveller & LINO.
Philosophy
Throughout history, tribal societies have shown respect, knowledge and re-union with their land and the animals that walk with them. The concept of wearing a totem or an amulet is entirely relevant to the conservation of our delicate eco-system, just as it has always been for the universal minds of the world’s tribesman.
Your totem spirit was a great source of power, where you were able to adopt the animal’s prowess, instincts or its form. This connection and respect is an environmental protection philosophy.
