Cicada Symphony Designer Jewellery

I am inspired by the drama of glass. My work is possibly influenced by extensive early travels through Asia and Europe. Through glass I can channel a natural eye for design and colour, capturing those influences in a luxurious and tactile form. I lampwork and kiln fire numerous types of glass with a special love of 'funky' Dichroic with its wonderfully spectacular colours and dramatic reaction to firing. A New Zealander by birth but now settled in the Australian Blue Mountains where I am co-founder and current CEO of the Blue Mountains Artists Company.

I import most of my glass and all of my jewellery 'findings' from around the world. I love the thrill of the chase in discovering and incorporating these 'findings' into my work in much the same way as I loved shell and pebble hunting on the beaches of New Zealand as a child. Most of all I love the fact that my artwork brings beauty to other people's lives.

In early 2008 I was selected to participate in Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. This has led to my dichroic neckpieces being used for a major Harper's Bazaar Fashion Shoot for the issue due out in August 2008 and profiles in various media including Canvas Magazine.

Woodlands Studio which I share with my husband, Vic, is open to the public most weekends between 10am and 4pm. The address is 25 Nelson Avenue, Wentworth Falls in the beautiful Blue Mountains of New South Wales.

Other Information

Fresh from exhibiting at Australian Fashion Week, Cicada Symphony continues to produce exclusive, handcrafted jewellery featuring lampworked glass bead necklaces with semi precious gemstones and spectacularly colourful dichroic glass neckpieces. Designer, Leslie Hunter, is inspired by the drama of glass. Her work is influenced by extensive early travels through Asia and Europe and it is through glass that Leslie channels a natural eye for design and colour, capturing those influences in a luxurious and tactile form. Lampwork and kiln fire on numerous types of glass as well as Dichroic (a multi layer coating of metal oxides placed on glass by using a highly technical vacuum deposition process) creates a dramatic reaction to firing and produces wonderfully spectacular colours.
