Interview:
When and why did you start designing?
I started studying fashion straight out of school in 2002 and graduated at the end of 2003. I have been in the industry for just over two years and have been with French Kitty for the past year. It is definitely my dream job. I love all our quirky and girly clothes!
What was the first piece you made?
The first thing I made for French Kitty was a silver Lurex knitted cropped cardie. It sooo cool and I still wear mine!
Who wears your clothes?
French Kitty is worn by fashion-forward girls such as Mischa Barton.
What has been your proudest moment to date?
When I saw a photo of The Veronicas wearing French Kitty! And every time I see something I have designed in a mag.
Any challenges… or regrets?
Designing fashion for French Kitty will always be a challenge because trends and fashion change so much.
Where do you seek muse?
I get creative direction from the French Kitty headquarters in LA and my inspirational muses are Mischa Barton, Scarlett Johansson, Nicole Richie and anyone with an individual sense of style.
What fashion trend can't you live without?
Dresses! I love all types of dresses — girly, pretty, quirky, anything!
What’s your secret to success?
Always keep an open mind.
Where will you be in ten years?
Still designing for French Kitty!
Any wise words of wisdom for those out there considering a future in design?
It takes a lot of determination and you always have to believe in yourself. But if you dream of working in the fashion industry, then go for it! It’s an amazing industry and offers so many opportunities for creative people.
