GENI’S JEWELS AND HOW IT WAS STARTED.

Geni’s Jewels is a party plan and personal shopping business owned by Adelaide based Jane Blacket who accidentally discovered when her son became ill that she had a talent for finding and purchasing unusual and beautiful quality jewellery at below normal costs prices.

“I was nursing my son round the clock when he became ill with a mysterious illness in 2000, it became evident that the hospitals couldn’t do any more so I quit work to stay at home to nurse him through the nights, during his month long attacks. I had to find a way to stay awake during the nights, so turned to the computer to try and find out what was wrong with him,( which she discovered in 2004 through the internet). Because of the long hours I had to stay awake I began exploring the Internet in depth. I had a girlfriend whose birthday was coming up so I decided to find her the pinkest, sparkliest girl-iest bracelet I could find. I came across an auction site that ran liquidation and closing store auctions. Using my fathers horse betting system, I decided to be cheeky and play the numbers game, placing bids on hundreds of items at really stupid prices. Playing the odds paid of and I won a few items at ridiculous prices. My girlfriend loved her bracelet and the next day she rang, asking me to find more, as her friend who owned a couple of high end boutiques loved them and said she could sell them for $180.00 in her stores. I was surprised, as I had paid nothing like that for them. That led to Jane buying jewellery for Christmas presents, then for other people to buy to use as Christmas presents, until a girlfriend suggested to her that she should start selling the jewellery, as bracelets like the one she had bought her friend that retailed for $180, she was able to sell for $40. Besides the liquidation auctions Jane has sourced jewellery all over the world, cutting out the middlemen that most stores buy through.

So Geni’s Jewels was born, and Jane now uses her cheekiness, experience and the manufacturing contacts she has made, buying unusual and gorgeous jewellery at prices that allow her to sell below the normal wholesale price. Jane could charge a lot more for her jewellery which friends have told her she should, but her philosophy is “’Why should only the rich have nice stuff”. Jane believes that you can run a business that provides a ‘win win’ for everyone concerned. “You get to an age where you realise that the most important thing in life is to enjoy those around you and to have fun”. Selling through party plan and directly from home not only cuts out the overheads that are normally added to the cost of the purchase but also allows for convenient, pressure free and fun experience.
