Via La Moda
Via La Moda is a well-established leather crafting company producing top quality, fashionable exotic leather products which are sought after by the elite.
The company was formed by pioneers from Austria and Germany who had a vision to produce the best quality exotic leather articles, without being based in Europe like most other companies. Being based in South Africa allows the company to be logistically close to the best source of ostrich leather available worldwide and have a reliable and skilful source of labour. One of the original creators of the company is Mr. Hanspeter Winklmayr. He is a 3rd Generation Master craftsman who has been working with leather goods from a very young age. He studied leather crafting in Vienna, Austria, where he qualified as a Master craftsman for leather goods. He is one of the few remaining highly qualified craftsmen in the world, specialised and knowledgeable in the design and crafting of exotic leather goods.
To produce first class leather goods, the designers and craftsmen of such goods must be intricately knowledgeable in the use of materials which are required to provide structure or support to the outer leather. Much like a chef needs to know the likely effect certain ingredients will have on his cooking, so too must a leather master craftsman. To just use any supporting and complimentary materials in the production of high class leather products is sure recipe for a product which does not feel good, stand straight, or will not last long.
All the company’s directors, designers, and senior craftsmen are from Europe. Their vast diversity of cultures from Austria, Germany, Spain, Italy and South Africa are combined to produce handbags, purses and wallets which are innovative in design, of excellent quality, and backed by a reliable and professional service.
Only the finest materials are used to make their products. Ostrich leather is from the very best tannery in South Africa, while quality gold plated locks and fittings are imported from Italy. Regular trips are undertaken to the major international accessory shows in Europe. This enables the company to be fully informed with the latest trends and colours. Top European designers from Italy and Germany are used to create designs which are up to date with the latest fashion trends.
We are very proud to have had our goods stocked in top department stores like Mitsukoshi in Japan, Asprey in London, Tiffany and co. in New York, and Madler in Switzerland.
There is an international trend of knowledgeable people who are constantly looking out for the hidden treasures of our world. These are the people we cater for. Traditionally, in Europe, leather crafting was passed on from generation to generation within a family. Today the trend is for many things to be mass-produced in order to supply the demands created by large-scale advertising. We do not compromise our traditional crafting methods for mass production.
That is why there is a growing trend of people who prefer to have the finer things in life made according to age old traditions, which, apart from being better than the mass produced items, are also unique and even personalised to some extent.
There is a generally accepted standard to be followed in the making of an ostrich leather handbag. For the ultimate in status, it is to be full point, with prominent quill marks. The leather alone costs about 5~7 times more than good calf, cow or sheepskin. To match such expensive leather it is justified to use the best metal fittings, linings and supporting raw materials as well as employ the correct crafting techniques in order to produce the final product, which radiates with beauty.
When looking at a Via La Moda Ostrich leather product, each one represents all the care, planning and expert craftsmanship that goes into making them. It is no wonder they stand out amongst the other exotic leather products.
